F.A.Q.
Where did the name come from?
We named the company Pop because we wanted to create outerwear with pops of color, rather than a jacket or pant that screamed. We also loved the name because it is fun, lighthearted, and the pop a snowboarder does at the lip of a jump. Sometimes people see our name and expect a loud, crazy jacket but our customers have consistently come back to us and said great things about the details in the jackets that they are continuously discovering (or, wait for it… "popping" out of nowhere). Enough bad puns for now.
What is your design ethos?
Classic injected with fun. Our designs take cues from streetwear fashion and utilizes technical fabrics to create something that you can wear both on and off the mountain. The figure-flattering silhouette of our jackets and pants (yes, the snowboarding pants will actually make you look thinner!) is a sporty yet refined style.
Is it good quality?
Our jackets are made in the same factories as other major ski and snowboarding outerwear brands, with the same high quality. Everything from design to fabrics to trim to construction is done with the highest quality. We wouldn't build it any other way.
Where is it made?
Our outerwear and softshells are currently made in China at top quality factories who specialize in snowsports apparel. Our fleece layer is Made in the USA (San Francisco to be exact!) with domestic, top-of-the-line Polartec fabric.
I see you are in the Haight, are you hippies?
Maybe? We love dancing wildly to imaginary music, can sometimes be caught skipping, and if that makes us hippies then I guess the answer is yes.
I hate my corporate job too, what made you start the company?
Years graduating college and moving into the corporate world, we felt like we were outgrowing the apparel that was out there for snowboarders (and we were only in our mid-20s!). When we thought back about our time snowboarding, we realized that we never really fit the "snowboarder" mold - we are serious nerds. But then we realized that most people on the mountain were like us - escaping the concrete jungle for some snow, drinks, and good times with friends. We had tossed around the idea of starting our own company - one that focused on the consumer and not one that told the consumer how cool/extreme we are. But it wasn't until after a backcountry trip to Canada (full story here), where we learned the joy in "just going for it" -– so we started Pop Outerwear and never looked back.
Can I see the jackets in person?
Absolutely! We have our San Francisco showroom open to the public by appointment. Drop us an email with a time you would like to swing by! (email:info@popouterwear.com).
